Oh, it has been absolutely freezing recently.

学习和天气有关的词汇和习语(你知道哪些和天气有关的词语呢)

最近天气真冷。

Oh, England is not the best place to come for a holiday.

英国不是度假的最佳去处。

No. We recommend you only come to England in the summer.

我们建议你在夏天的时候来英国。

When it rains more.

下雨多的时候。

Right guys, welcome back to Love English.

朋友们,欢迎回到爱英语。

So today we've got five adjectives and five idioms all connected to weather.

今天五个形容词和五个习语都与天气有关。

And these are very high-frequency words and phrases in English.

而这些都是英语中使用频率非常高的单词和短语。

That's right and British people are obsessed with the weather.

没错,英国人对天气很着迷。

We are.

我们是。

Because generally speaking, the English weather isn't very good.

因为总的来说,英国的天气不是很好。

So we like to talk about the weather, so as Leyla said these words are used by British people all the time.

所以我们喜欢谈论天气,正如莱拉所说,这些词一直被英国人使用。

So before when we started I said "it was freezing" which actually at the moment in England, it's nearly about to get freezing.

在我们开始之前,我说“天气很冷”,实际上现在在英国,几乎要结冰了。

Yeah, we're getting there by December.

是的,12月的时候。

"It will be freezing" and this means very cold comes from the verb "to freeze", which is when water turns into ice.

It will be freezing,这意味着非常冷,来自动词“to freeze”,即水变成冰。

When English people turn into snowmen.

英国人变成雪人的时候。

Freezing, meaning very cold, is an extreme adjective, and with extreme adjectives, you can't actually say "very", you can't say "I'm very freezing".

Freezing,意思是很冷,这是一个极端的形容词,形容极端的形容词,实际上不能用“very”,你不能说“I'm very freezing”。

You can, however, what could you say with it at the cold time, "I'm absolutely freezing." Yes, totally freezing.

但是,你可以在表达寒冷的时候说,“我一定冻僵了。"是的,完全冻僵了。

Yeah, I think "absolutely" is the one we use at the moment.

是的,我认为“absolutely”是我们目前能使用的。

I am absolutely freezing.

我完全冻僵了。

But not "very", guys.

但不是“very”,朋友们。

Yes, not "very".

是的,不能用“very”。

Okay, guys, so in England, it doesn't rain just a little bit.

好吧,伙计们,在英国,雨不会只下一点点。

Yes, it rains a lot.

是的,经常下雨。

People come to England and they say "Wow, England is so green." Well, guess why?

人们来到英国,他们会说“哇,英国真绿。"猜猜为什么?

It can rain.

因为它会下雨。

It rains all the time.

一直下雨。

Now, when it rains a lot, there's a couple of words we can use.

现在,下大雨的时候,我们可以用几个词。

One of them is: "It's pouring." "It's pouring." This means heavy rain.

其中一个是:It's pouring。这意味着下大雨。

It's pouring.

下大雨了。

Can you think of another word related to heavy rain?

你能想到另一个和大雨有关的词吗?

Yes, you can say "It's tipping down".

是的,你可以说 It's tipping down。

Again, heavy rain.

又来了,大雨。

Now in the UK, it doesn't just pour down.

现在在英国,不仅仅是倾盆大雨。

It doesn't just tip down.

不仅仅是大雨。

But we do kind of get its spits.

我们也会看到小雨。

Okay, so does the little bit of rain, spitting.

一点点的雨。

Uh, drizzle.

呃,毛毛雨。

Okay, "drizzle" is a great one.

“drizzle”是个很好的形容词。

It's drizzling, again meaning very very light rain.

下着毛毛雨,意思是非常非常小的雨。

We have all kinds of rain in the UK.

英国有各种各样的雨。

Now often with rain comes fog.

现在经常有雨和雾。

Fog is when you can't see very well.

雾是你看不太清楚的时候。

It's a low-lying cloud.

它是低低的云。

And it's particularly dangerous for drivers.

而且对司机来说特别危险。

Because they can't see ahead of them.

因为他们看不到前方。

And if you look out and you see that you can't see the other side of the street, you can say "Wow, it's foggy. It's foggy." Now I actually live near the sea and when you have fog at sea, coming in from the sea, it's actually called mist.

如果你向外看,你发现你看不到街道的另一边,你可以说“哇,雾很大。雾很大。"现在我实际上住在海边,当你在海上有雾的时候,从海上来,它实际上被称为雾(mist)。

So that's the difference.

这就是区别。

They're more or less the same thing, low-lying cloud.

它们几乎是一样的东西,低低的云。

But when we've got it by the sea, it's called mist.

但当我们在海边得到它时,它就叫做雾。

When it's more inland, it's called fog.

在内陆的时候叫雾(fog)。

So misty, it's misty or fog... It's foggy.

多雾……雾很大。

Now one thing you need to know about British culture is that it's considered very unlucky to put up an umbrella inside.

关于英国文化,你需要知道的一件事是,在室内撑伞被认为是非常不吉利的。

Have you ever done that Leila?

你做过吗,莱拉?

I have. I'm not very superstitious.

我有,我不是很迷信。

But I'm kind of wondering is that the same in your countries, guys?

但我想知道你们国家也是这样吗,朋友们?

Is it unlucky to put an umbrella up inside?

在室内撑伞撑伞不吉利吗?

Let us know in the comments down below.

请在下面的评论中告诉我们。

Now they say in England that the weather is very changeable.

英国人说天气多变。

And as you can see here, it's changed very very quickly.

正如你在这里看到的,变化非常非常快。

And now it's hot.

现在很热。

It's so hot that... It's boiling.

天气太热了...太热了。

Yes.

是的。

So boiling? What does that mean Leila?

boiling?莱拉,这是什么意思?

Well, it means very hot.

嗯,意思是非常热。

It's another extreme adjective.

这是另一个极端的形容词。

And as we said before, you can't say "I'm very boiling".

而且我们之前说过,你不能说“I'm very boiling”。

No, you can't.

不,你不能。

You can say "I'm absolutely boiling".

你可以说“I'm absolutely boiling(我太热了)”。

So what would you say is boiling Leila?

所以你会说什么是 boiling(炎热的)的莱拉?

Well, I suppose in England it doesn't really get boiling.

嗯,我想在英国它不算很热。

30 plus, 35. I love, to be honest, I love 30. 35 is boiling for me, but 30 is okay.

30加,35度。我爱,说实话,我爱30度。35度对我来说太热了,但30度刚刚好。

But in some countries like Saudi Arabia, it really is boiling.

但在沙特等一些国家,真的是太热了。

You guys can like cook an egg on the street.

你们可以在街上煮蛋。

Now idioms you guys know the first one I am sure.

我敢肯定,这是你们知道第一个成语。

It's raining cats and dogs.

下着倾盆大雨。

No, not literally.

不,不是字面意思。

I wondered what she was doing then?

我想知道她在做什么?

It's raining cats and dogs.

下着倾盆大雨。

That just means that it's pouring as we told you earlier or it's tipping down.

那只是意味着像我们之前告诉你的那样,正在下大雨,或者正在下大雨。

It's very heavy rain and it is probably one of the number one idioms that we use in the UK.

雨很大,这可能是我们在英国使用的头号习语之一。

It's very very common.

非常非常普通。

What's the matter with you?

你怎么了?

I am feeling a bit under the weather.

我觉得有点不舒服。

Oh no, what happened to you?

哦不,你怎么了?

Have you been out in the rain?

你出去淋雨了吗?

No, I don't think so.

不,我没有。

You have been there, dancing?

你在雨里跳舞了吗?

So "to feel under the weather", this means to feel a little bit ill or you think you're getting ill.

所以“to feel under the weather”,这意味着感觉有点不舒服或者你认为自己生病了。

So like...do you want a tissue?

就像...你想要纸巾吗?

I'm alright.

我没事。

You're getting sick or you feel not yourself.

你生病了或者你感觉不舒服。

I don't feel quite right.

我觉得不太对劲。

So you might feel a bit cold.

你可能会觉得有点冷。

Your nose might be runny.

你可能流鼻涕。

You might have a little bit of a sore throat.

你可能有点喉咙痛。

But you don't feel well.

但是你感觉不舒服。

You feel under the weather.

你感觉不舒服。

Often how you feel before, you really get very sick.

经常是指以前的感觉,不舒服的感觉。

Oh, you seem all right.

哦,你看起来不错。

Yes, sorry, I've recovered and I got over it.

是的,对不起,我已经恢复了,我已经克服了。

Now, this idiom really doesn't make a lot of sense.

现在,这个成语真的没什么意义了。

There's not a lot of logic in it.

没有太多的逻辑在里面。

But we often say, to say that we're feeling good, feeling well, we say "I feel right as rain." That's right.

但是我们经常说,要说我们感觉很好,我们会说“I feel right as rain"。没错。

Do you feel right as rain now?

你现在感觉好多了吗?

I do, I feel much better.

是的,我感觉好多了。

I feel right as rain.

我感觉好极了。

You look very happy, Leila, what's going on with you?

你看起来很开心,莱拉,你怎么了?

Things are pretty good at the moment.

目前情况相当好。

How come you're so happy?

你怎么这么开心?

Well, remember my boyfriend broke up with me.

嗯,你记得我跟我男朋友分手了吗?

Yeah, I'm sorry about that.

是的,我很抱歉。

Oh, don't worry. I'm with someone new.

别担心,我认识了一个新人。

Really? Tell me about him.

真的吗?说说他的情况吧。

A doctor.

他是个医生。

A doctor?

医生?

Very handsome.

很帅。

Have you stopped feeling under the weather?

你感觉好多了吗?

Well, you were so sad about the other boyfriend.

之前你为另一个男朋友非常难过。

Well, you know, every cloud has a silver lining.

嗯,你知道,每片云朵都有银边。

That's true, every cloud does.

没错,每朵云都是这样。

So every cloud has a silver lining.

所以每朵云都有一线希望。

Now, in this case, this means that in every negative situation that can be a positive.

在这种情况下,这意味着在任何消极的情况下它都可以是积极的。

So in Leila's situation, she was very sad because her boyfriend broke up with her.

所以在莱拉的情况下,她很难过,因为她的男朋友和她分手了。

But then she met someone even better.

但后来她遇到了更好的人。

So from a negative situation came up positive.

所以从消极的情况上升到积极的。

So every cloud has a silver lining.

所以每朵云都有一线希望。

If you think about it, a cloud represents the negative.

你想想,一朵云代表着消极。

It does.

确实如此。

And the silver lining is the Sun coming out through.

而银色的一线就是太阳出来了。

Exactly, represents the positive.

没错,代表了积极。

The hope in the situation or the good thing that can come from it.

这种情况下的希望或者从中得到的好东西。

So every cloud has a silver lining.

所以每朵云都有一线希望。

Guys, trying and use it in the comments if you have been in a situation where suddenly there was a positive and you could say "Every cloud has a silver lining." Right, now have you ever been in a situation where you've felt quite nervous, anxious, s a bit worried.

朋友们,试着在评论中使用它,如果你曾经处于这样一种情况,突然有了积极的一面,你可以说“每朵云都有一线希望。"好的,现在你有没有遇到过这样的情况,你感到非常紧张,焦虑,有点担心。

Yes, lots of times, mostly from work.

是的,很多次,大部分是在工作中。

Well, as teachers, we often have to break the ice with our students.

嗯,作为老师,我们经常要和学生打破沉默(break the ice)。

That doesn't mean we throw them through a glacier.

这并不意味着我们要把它们扔进冰川。

It means that we... As we might like to do that.

这意味着我们...我们很可能想这么做。

Well, it could happen.

嗯,有可能。

But it means that we kind of makes the situation a bit more relaxed often by telling a joke, encouraging them to talk, and build their confidence.

但这意味着我们通过讲一个笑话,鼓励他们说话,建立他们的信心,让情况变得更轻松。

Yes, so in social situations, it's when everything seems frozen and uncomfortable and people aren't relaxed and then you break the ice, meaning once the ice is broken you feel more relaxed.

是的,所以在社交场合,当一切似乎都冻结和不舒服以及人们感觉不放松时,你就打破僵局,这意味着一旦僵局打破,你会感到更放松。

Right now our last idiom "to be snowed under." Another nice cold idiom.

现在我们最后的成语是“to be snowed under"。又一个很好的有关寒冷的习语。

But actually, something that relates to work.

但实际上,这是一些与工作有关的事情。

Well recently Leila, funny you should say that, I've been working a lot.

嗯,最近莱拉,有趣的是你应该说,我一直在努力工作。

We've had, you've really been snowed under.

我们受够了,你真的有很多工作。

That's so much work to do.

要做的工作太多了。

I've been staying until six and seven.

我一直熬夜到六七点。

My boyfriend wants to break up with me because he never sees me.

男朋友想和我分手,因为他很少见过我。

I've been snowed under the work.

我工作忙得不可开交。

It has been coming up and up and up and I feel that it's above me and the work is very high and under it.

它一直在累积,我觉得它在我之上,工作在它之下。

There's a lot of pressure on you.

你压力很大。

So I've been snowed under.

所以我被雪覆盖了。
